With no intention of offending any feline admirers, pet cats as a rule trigger more allergic reactions than their canine counterparts. This is attributable to the fact that cats tend to be more fastidious in their personal hygiene, and lick and groom themselves more often. While this may be a source of pride for pet owners, it also means that more potentially allergenic cat saliva allergens are spewed into the air they breathe. As in the case of dogs, all breeds of cats, regardless of the length of their fur, are about the same in their ability to provoke allergic reactions in humans.
